Linux Supercluster Users Conference

AHPCC to have Frank Gilfeather and Patricia Kovatch Speak at Chautauqua 2000

Frank Gilfeather and Patricia Kovatch will present discussions on Linux superclusters during the Chautauqua 2000. The Alliance Chautauqua 2000 is run by the NCSA. It will meet from Aug 1-3, 2000 at the University of Kansas at Lawrence. The meeting will concentrate on how computational grids can be used to link people and resources.

Frank Gilfeather, HPCERC Director, will address the Chautaqua on Wednesday, August 2 from 7:30-9:00 MDT on "Accessing the Alliance Resources." This will include a guided tour of the Alliance resources, gaining accounts and allocations, accessing NPACI resources, and introducing user portals. Later in the same day, Gilfeather will moderate a discussion on "Deploying Grid Technologies." This discussion will talk about 1) the uses of Condor, an experimental scheduler from the University of Wisconsin, 2) using the grid for collaboration and training.

Patricia Kovatch will be part of a panel from 9:45 am - 10:55 am on August 3, entitled "The Truth about Cluster Computing." The panel will discuss repurposing low-cost commodity parts to become a high performance computing system. This will deal with the applications and users of these computer clusters.

The Alliance Chautauqua 2000 will be "broadcast" at the AHPCC. It is open to the public. For more information, please visit the Chautauqua 2000 web pages or call Marlene M. Wallace at (505) 277-8299. A map to the AHPCC is available.
