Computational Biophysics

Building on the Flatland visualization research, Paul Alsing and Andy Pineda are collaborating with Vageli Coutsias from the Mathematics Department and Jack McIver of the Physics & Astronomy department to study protein folding in solutions with water. Currently, using Flatland, molecular dynamics simulations have been demonstrated using Flatland for the display of the simulated data and have provided invaluable insight into the behavior of the simulations. Using the combination of the Power3 SMP-SP and the Netfinity cluster SP with graphics accelerators and the the SGE connected to the SP switch, we will perform extensive molecular dynamics simulations of water and protein folding in solution.
