This summer, CARC is supporting the 2015 Sandia National Laboratories Summer Institute on Nonlinear Mechanics and Dynamics. This 6-week program brings together participants from University of New Mexico and fifteen other universities. It brings together graduate students and early career researchers from both the US and international communities, with the goal of allowing participants with diverse technical backgrounds to work together in teams to tackle projects related to interfacial mechanics and jointed structures. This year’s Institute’s will focus on the following projects:
“The Summer Institute on Nonlinear Mechanics and Dynamics (NoMaD) is a model for collaboration between Sandia and UNM,” said Dr. Zayd Leseman, who is co-directing this year’s institute. “UNM’s Manufacturing Training and Technology Center (MTTC) is pleased to be housing the NoMaD and accommodating its experimental endeavors with its micro/nanofabrication facilities and laboratories. UNM’s supercomputing center, the Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC) is supporting the intense computational efforts required for the Institute. We are fortunate to be working with such an esteemed group of international researchers.”
The Institute will help form long-lasting collaborations, and will allow students and researchers from around the world to make significant progress towards solving several of the major challenges in the area of joints and interfacial mechanics. At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to present their research at the ASME IDETC 2015 Conference in Boston, MA, as part of a special symposium organized for the Institute.
