Destroying Data: Forgetfulness in the Age of Information

March 7, 2016

Join us for an interactive exhibition of information and forgetfulness at the Small Engine Gallery, in the historic Barelas neighborhood this Friday, March 8th. There will be a lecture and discussion at 8pm led by Dr. Ryan Johnson, Applications Scientist at the Center for Advanced Research Computing. The event will culminate in the destruction of the installation and its data.

The information is held on 47,000 meters of LTO magnetic storage tape. It is 83,000 GB of information, enough to store all the genetic material of 55,000 humans or 1.27 million copies of the complete works of Shakespeare.

Exhibition coordinator Jazmyn Crosby invites guests to, "bring your own tools of creative destruction. Please be mindful of other persons' safety, and absolutely no fire!"
