Linux
Workshop at MHPCC
MHPCC is pleased to announce it will be holding a
Linux Cluster workshop at MHPCC May 23-25, 2001. The workshop will
be conducted by staff from IBM’s Advanced Computational Technology
Center (ACTC), and will make use of MHPCC’s newest system called Huinalu,
a 260 node / 520 processor Linux cluster. |

Project
TOUCH is Advancing
Project TOUCH will demonstrate the feasibility of
employing advanced computing methods to enhance education in an innovative
problem-based learning (PBL) format currently being used in the medical
school curriculum, applying specific clinical case models, and deploying
to remote sites/workstations. |

AHPCC
has World's Fastest Ranked Linux Cluster
AHPCC made the top 500 supercomputer list at number
80 - 4th among US academic institutions. Overall C-plant at SNL was
at 84 and MHPCC clocked in at 57 with a SP to be delivered in December
(that is allowed). Our AHPCC team did the hard work of actually benchmarking
LosLobos. It appears to be the highest rated Linux cluster on the
list. |

Campanulacae
Runs in Record Time
Using the largest open, production Linux supercluster,
LosLobos, researchers at the AHPCC have achieved a nearly one-million-fold
speedup in solving the computationally-hard phylogeny reconstruction
problem for the family of twelve Bluebell species (scientific name:
Campanulacae) from the flowers' chloroplast gene order data.

MPICH Test Results for 8/10/00 Chris Maestas made available the
results of running the performance tests from the mpich distribution.
They are available in gnuplot and postscript format. The tests were
run on the original TURING cluster, Black Bear (BB), Los Lobos (LL),
Road Runner (RR), and Vista Azul (AZUL). I still have yet to gather
data from the new workshop cluster (TRUCHAS). I usually ran the tests
on 8 nodes, with the exception of LL and RR, where I ran on 1 node,
2 processors, in order to compare the change in latency. Please scroll
down after you load each dir to view software version information
and information on the naming scheme of the files. |
